Fucking L.A. Speedcore

about

In the later 90s I was going out to Los Angeles a lot to play for various promoters. I was playing vinyl but also starting to carry a desktop computer on planes to be able to play the newest shit! Dub plates were too expensive and CD players had not become a DJ thing yet.

I played a few times for Art. Art lived in Compton. We slept in the garage at his parents house. We ate homemade tortillas and just hung out.

The first time he picked me up it was in a big old hooptie that had to have the heat on to move the heat away from the engine so it didn't over heat. it was hot as fuck and we were in LA rush hour evening traffic.

So, we'd hang out, eat, drive around and at night we'd go to his friends house and smoke blunts and drink 40s and play dominoes. Just me and a bunch of Mexican-Americans from Compton that loved gabber.

The raves were always underground, illegal and hardcore techno from start to finish. There was always a nitrous tank and always gang signs being thrown in the mosh pits. For a 20 year old from Wisconsin this was a culture blast - and I fucking loved it.

I loved it so much I wrote a love song to it. Why this never came out when it was written I'll never know. I think I lost a drive (I never back shit up, and there's a bunch of stuff that I just have no idea where it is).

Luckily World Famous DJ Unibomber found this and sent it to me - and here we are. It starts at 230bpm and goes up and up and up and up building on NWA samples and classic gabber scream chops. It's fucking fast and unrelenting and unpolished.

Enjoy this as much as I enjoyed playing it to a warehouse full of fucked-up-on-nitrous folks from L.A.
